The Rise and Rise of AF (Alcohol-free) Beverages
With the rise of non-alcoholic beverages around the world, 2021 saw a sales increase of
33% in the USA for alcohol free drinks. Experts believe this will only continue to increase in
2022. ‘’Data in the newly released New Zealand Health Survey 2020/21 shows the number
of New Zealanders who consumed alcohol in the past year has declined by 3.1% and is at
its lowest in 10 years, says the NZ Alcohol Beverages Council (NZABC)’’.
People around the world are becoming more conscious with their health and wellbeing
choices and so are opting for alcohol free drinks or low alcoholic beverages. Resulting in
less hangovers, less sugar, less carbs and lower calories.
The rise in this trend of alcohol free drinks is in particular beneficial for women as studies
have found that due to their body size and mass, women tend to suffer more with hangovers
than men. This makes sense biologically as women have less water in their bodies and so
the dehydration process from drinking alcohol is a contributing factor to hangovers especially
for women during their period.
Alcohol free beverages are great for the busy women who enjoy waking up feeling fresh
after a night of socialising. Waking up with a hangover no longer has to be the reality as the
large majority of alcohol free drinks provide an opportunity to enjoy the taste of your favourite
spirits or preferred drink in a social setting.
